Contract Remote Hybrid Editor / Publishing Ops Lead
We're looking for a sharp, detail-obsessed Editor + Publishing Strategist to take our nonfiction business book from polished manuscript to bestselling launch.
This is more than line editing. You'll serve as the lead editorial brain and execution engine, using AI where helpful and human intelligence where it counts.
About the Project
We've completed the manuscript for a high-impact, system-based hiring book built for fast-growing, founder-led businesses. The ideas are solid. The content is structured. Now we need an editorial partner to elevate, organize, and launch the book into the world across print, Kindle, audiobook, and online platforms with quality, speed, and polish.
Your Role and Superpowers
You're a hybrid operator equal parts editorial strategist, publishing tactician, and AI-savvy implementer.
Editorial & Content Leadership
- Review and refine a ~200-page nonfiction business book
- Fact-check citations and ensure first-party source integrity
- Elevate structure, tone, and clarity while maintaining voice
- Add or help develop real-world case studies, exercises, and visuals
Publishing Execution
- Format for paperback, Kindle, and ePub (KDP/Apple Books/etc.)
- Oversee setup for Audible narration (using Eleven Labs or ACX)
- Handle metadata, ISBNs, and final uploads for each format
AI Tools & Automation (You Know How to Prompt)
- Use tools like ChatGPT, Canva, Jasper, Eleven Labs, and Notion AI
- Enhance productivity without sacrificing editorial excellence
- Know how to generate content but review it like a hawk
Light Marketing & Coordination
- Collaborate with internal team to build:
- Resource landing pages
- Downloadable templates and worksheets
- Amazon description copy and book page strategy
- Optional: guide pre-launch reviews or outreach if experienced
You'll Have Support From Our Team
You won't be doing everything alone. Our internal team is covering:
- Web design and dev
- Email marketing and landing page buildout
- PR and outreach
- Illustration (if needed)
We need you to be the human-in-the-loop who connects the dots, raises red flags, and ensures high-quality delivery.
Ideal Background
- 3 - 7+ years in editorial/publishing (business or self-help nonfiction a big plus)
- Direct experience launching books on Amazon KDP and/or Audible
- Comfortable managing multiple deliverables and timelines solo
- Tech-forward: you already use AI tools as leverage, not magic
- Bonus: familiarity with hiring, leadership, or founder-driven business topics
Project Scope & Timeline
- Start: As soon as possible
- Duration: 8 - 12 weeks (with flexibility for extended work post-launch)
- Weekly Time: 10 - 20 hours average, based on milestone rhythm
Compensation
Flexible structure based on your working style and depth of contribution:
- Hourly: $45 - $60/hr USD
- Project-based: $4,500 - $6,000 flat fee
- (Final rate depends on scope: editorial-only vs. full launch coordination)
